Title: Extra Nice Large 1930's Hamilton Gladstone Serviced Description: EXCELLENT condition. One of my favorite vintage watches of all time simply because of size. Most watches with rectangular or tank shapes are much smaller. And the older they are the more likely it is that the size will be small. Our bodies and our wrists were smaller on average back then. Hunger stunts growth and conversely the abundance of food stimulates it. So, this type or shape of watch in this size is rare. Finding one in really nice condition is rare also. This piece is white gold filled with a snap back and snap on bezel. The dial has been refinished and one if the best jobs I've seen. Our watchmaker found new old stock hands which match the color of the numbers perfectly. He also fully serviced, oiled and timed the Caliber 987F hand wound American made movement and that comes with a one year service warranty. There is an inscription on the back which brings me to the final point/s of interest. It is dated 1930 and according to most literature and "common knowledge" this model was not introduced until 1931. A real mystery, eh? In truth, our base of knowledge is limited when it comes to exact dates or "facts". Serial number dating and other bits of info written in books can be used for general purposes and are not expected to be 100% factual. The correct 987F movement inside has a 4.180 million serial number which according to serial number dates from books makes this a movement from 1940. Could be that it was replaced 10 years after the watch was given as a gift or there could be some other explanation. Just some watch food/trivia for thought. The black lizard strap is signed Hamilton and most likely comes from a modern Hamilton time piece. We purchased this watch from a collector with the strap attached. Measures 27 mm wide (not including the crown) x 39 mm long x 10 mm thick. {$425} Item #5292 SOLD
