Title: Rare 21 Jewel Hamilton 992E Rail Road Grade Pocket Watch Description: EXCELLENT condition. Circa 1936. Beautiful near perfect original porcelain dial is faux double sunk and has one small edge chip. No hairlines and I've checked it over with a 10x loupe. Original blued hands have light corrosion, not seen easily with the naked eye. Subsidiary second hand is the worst. The Hamilton signed case is 10k gold filled and has a screw on back and bezel which holds the thin glass crystal (these are expensive and would be exactly what it came with, opposed to a modern acrylic replacement). The bow is original and has no wear on the underside although the case shows nicks and scuffs if you look real close. No jewelers marks on the inside. The movement, possibly one of the finest mass produced American movements ever (probably a race between the 992, 992E and 992B) has light jewelers scuffs on the nickel "bright work" and the screws have some burrs or signs of a screwdriver. Super faint corrosion on the swan's neck regulator. This is the improved 992 which was probably the most widely used and recognized rail road timekeeper in the world. Extremely accurate in 5 positions, heat, cold and isochronism especially with the better Elinvar hairspring (over steel). The bi-metallic, 2 spoke balance has gold screws for fine timing. The red synthetic sapphire jewels are held in place with gold settings. The center wheel is gold and the little snow man shaped escape wheel bridge down below the balance assembly is too. By the way, if you do a conversion, these watches are less expensive today than they were when new. A high grade watch like this was almost like buying a car as far as how much one had to save up. My grandfather on my Dad's side and his Dad could only afford the dollar watches as every day wearers. Gorgeous, rare timepiece way under market value. I've checked it out but Wayne hasn't. I'll back it up, as usual but watchmakers are expensive and if we service the price would be $100 higher. It runs great now with good motion. The three parts of this watch would probably bring more if sold separately (for restoring damaged original owner's watches I guess). Measures about 50 mm in diameter. {$575} Item #6148 SOLD
