Title: Rare 48' Hamilton Piping Rock Description: EXCELLENT condition. This watch is a hair short of new old stock condition. Purchased from an estate and having one good sized scratch on the back and a deep gouge on the side but with the original brushed finish on the sides and very sharp edges (shows little to no buffing over the years which rounds the edges and can make the hinges loose). The 1948 version is two times the watch that the 28 Piping Rock is. Extremely heavy and thick with super tight construction and very tight hinged lugs. This later version also has a thick bowl shaped one piece case rather than the usual snap on back. Enamel bezel is perfect and original. Dial is original but with some light age. We can refinish if you like at no extra cost but it will be awhile to get that done. This has about 20 grams of gold which is a lot for a vintage piece. It also carries a Hamilton 747 American movement which was one of their best. Case #S644435. Serial #Y26481. Completely gone over by Wayne and in superb condition, almost like new. In my opinion this is the finest American made wristwatch ever produced, prior to 1969 when the last company died. Installed is one of the finest American Alligator straps we carry, a DeBeer Paris turned edge hand made in black with a $160 retail value. Comes with a one year service guarantee. If it ever needs service, I'll do it for free. Also comes with a period Hamilton Bakelite box in perfect condition, a $75 value. Most examples of this model sell for $2800 and up and most are not in this condition. Measures 28.5 mm wide (not including the crown) x 42 mm long x 8 mm thick. {$2195} Item #5892 SOLD
