Title: Rare 1956 Rolex Submariner, Reference 6536-1 Description: EXCELLENT unbuffed condition. Unbelievable all original condition. Found at the jewelry/watch store where it was first purchased over 50 years ago. Traded in by the original owner for something newer. ORIGINAL gilt dial is to die for. The light golden brown aura this dial casts is mesmerizing. I literally can't come up with the proper terms or words for how nice it looks in person. More than that though is the even coloring of everything on it, hands, lume, gilt. It all melds into a cozy amber sheen. As mentioned, we know this is an all original watch because of the provenance or history but we can also tell by the corresponding signs of age or use for each part, dial/movement/case. Some light case age seen, mostly on the back (some faint tool marks and overall smoothness). Some age from servicing of the ORIGINAL Rolex Caliber 1030 rotor chronometer grade movement seen as light washout or fading. The color you see on the movement is tarnish as it has not been serviced in almost 30 years. The inside of the back has 7 or 8 old watchmakers signatures, the latest from 1981. All match age to one another including the minor scratches and scuffs on the ORIGINAL bezel which has a little red coloring left in the dot at 12. This is a rare variation without minute markings from 1 to 10. The spring bars are old too although they are probably not 50's vintage. From what I can tell, this watch was used for about 12-20 years off and on and then turned in for something else and kept in the store safe. Runs perfectly keeping chronometer grade time according to the timing machine. Comes with a one year service warranty and coupon. Checked out by Rolex and also has that paper from them with corresponding serial and reference numbers. Rare early important watches don't come up from original sources like this very often. In fact, while checking around for price I spoke to another dealer who had just sold a Ref. 6536-1 gilt dial to a client for $8000. If this is your genre, condition and provenance make it a must have piece. 37.5 mm wide (not including the crown) x 48 mm long x 112 mm thick. Item #4979 {$21,500} SOLD
